Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation around the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
