Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
An important representative stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
